Dj Trix

Picture
DJ Trix’s love affair with Dance music began by listening to mixed tapes that his older sister gave to him in the mid 1990s and devoting a lot of time documenting the Rave culture not only here in Tampa, Florida but throughout the United States and all over the world.

Although his interests in Dance music were strong, he began surfing in the early 90s at various locations throughout the United States and this led Robby Upton to start his own surfboard company named “Poseidon Surfboards.”But as most of his time became dedicated to Dance music, it was during this time in which he had to choose between surfing, and becoming a DJ.

He chose to be not only a DJ, but also as a producer and remixer.

He began Dj’ing at house parties and went on to make his own mixed tapes. This led to create his first mixed cd, “Hocus-Pocus” in 1999. That is when the cd caught the attention of the manager at the now defunct super club The Pleasuredome. Thrust into performing the music that he loved so much to thousands of partygoers gave him the experience and the strength to spread his sounds to other Bay Area clubs.

His first 12 inch releases were “Free Your Mind,” “Attention,” “Bass Keeps Thumpin’,” and “Just Come Back.” These releases not only cemented DJ Trix as an aspiring producer but also as one of Tampa, Florida’s rising musical talents.

In 2002, DJ Trix landed a spot on 98.7 FM’s “The X Factory” along side DJ Rose. This weekly radio program showcased mostly Florida Breaks and House and it was a driving force that gave Dance music to the masses of Hillsborough County and other listening areas.

He once again demonstrated his production prowess by teaming up with a local female vocalist by the name of Jaime Z. and released the singles “Deep Into The Night,” “Shine,” “Free Spirit,” and a remix of Underworld’s “Born Slippy.” He continued to perform in many local clubs until landing at a small cigar bar that was previously known as The Falls. He singlehandedly changed the once calm atmosphere to one of New Tampa’s most important nightspots.

With his own distinct look and sound, both in production and DJ sets, DJ Trix continues to secure himself as not only an accomplished Tampa Bay Area DJ, but a rising star bringing his musical trademarks to the masses here in Tampa, Florida and beyond.
